Heartstopper season 2 shares first-look at new characters – including Nick's brother

Heartstopper season two just shared a first look at some of its new cast in-character.

The hit Netflix romantic teen series is due to return in a couple of weeks, with a number of familiar faces – notably Nick Kit Connor and Charlie Joe Locke – back in tow. Fans have now been given a first glimpse at a few of the newer characters, including Nick’s older brother David played by Jack Barton and father Stephane Thibault de Montalembert, with whom he has a strained relationship in the original graphic novels.

Viewers will also be introduced to Higgs student Sahar Zahid Leila Khan Truham teacher Mr Farouk Nima Taleghani James McEwan a returning Bradley Riches and Elle's Yasmin Finney new friends Naomi Bella Priestley and Felix Ash Self. First-look images of returning characters Imogen Rhea Norwood Tori Jenny Walser Ben Sebastian Croft and Elle and Tao William Gao have also been released. As well as navigating Nick and Charlie's growing relationship season 2 will also see "Tara and Darcy face unforeseen challenges and Tao and Elle work out if they can ever be more than just friends".

"With exams on the horizon, a school trip to Paris and a prom to plan, the gang has a lot to juggle as they journey through the next stages of life love and friendship" the synopsis adds. Creator Alice Oseman previously teased that season 2 would have a "darker" tone telling the Hay Festival via BBC recently: "Season two's... aim was to capture the joy and the magic of season one while also feeling that the characters have grown up and matured a little bit so we're exploring some things that are maybe a little bit darker than season one.

"The romances are getting a little bit more mature... it's like an elevation, I like to think, of season one."

Heartstopper is streaming on Netflix, where season 2 will premiere on August 3.
